Using DeployAnywhere with 64-bit Windows 7

SYMPTOM

If you are deploying an 64-bit Windows 7 image, with DeployAnywhere checked, using the WinPE x86 environment, the image job completes successfully, but only according to the console.  Once it tries to login to Windows, it stops at either a blue or black screen with a mouse cursor... never moves past this point.  Though the drivers have been copied to the machine, none will be installed.

CAUSE

The sysprep unattended answer file (from the best I can tell) is populated while in WinPE.  Since it was booted into an x86 environment, it populates the "@ProcessArchitecture" variables with "x86" instead of "amd64".  Since Windows 7 64-bit sysprep looks for the "amd64" it doesn't process anything in the unattended answer file.  Therefore, the administrator is not enabled, the driver path is not redirected, settings (if it was a reimaged machine) such as hostname, domain, etc.), are never placed, and if you get it to reboot, there will be failure messages if you can get logged in to another local account.

SOLUTION

Download the attached "unattend64.xml" file.  Save it to \\[YourNotificationServer]\NSCap\bin\Win32\X86\Deployment.  Open your 64-bit image task.  Under the Sysprep Configuration section, choose "Custom Sysprep configuration file".  Click Browse.  Find and choose "unattend64.xml" and click OK.

Save the task, and run the job again.  It should now do everything its supposed to do.
